The management and employees of the Ajman Sewerage Company, with the support of the Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman, engaged in a cleanup drive to collect solid waste around all Ajman Sewerage’s wastewater pumping stations across the city of Ajman.

The initiative was organised as part of the annual environmental preservation initiative known as Clean Up the World Weekend.

Clean Up the World is aimed as a training awareness within communities of the importance of environmental cleanliness as well as responsible waste disposal.

The initiative, which is the largest community-based environmental campaign in the world, took place between Sept 19 and 21 with an estimated 35 million volunteers participating across 130 countries.

Ajman Sewerage is the company responsible for the collection and treatment of all wastewater produced in Ajman.

Speaking during the event, which involved more than 80 volunteers, Ajman Sewerage General Manager Christophe Ledur highlighted the company’s commitment to a clean environment. Ledur pointed out that waste management was a responsibility that needed to be shared equally by all to protect and maintain the environment.

He also noted that, with the steady rise in the population, there was a greater need to instill a culture of disposing solid waste, such as paper, plastic bottles and wood, responsibly for the benefit of all.

“Ajman Sewerage is glad to take a leading role in environmental preservation in Ajman. We want to play our part in boosting UAE’s Green Economy initiative,” said Ledur.

He went on to add, “This can only be achieved by working very closely with the Ajman authorities, the business community and the people of Ajman. By facilitating action at a local level, Clean Up the World will produce tangible benefits and improvement to the environment both locally and globally. This, we believe, is key to sustainable development,” noted Ledur.
